VirtualDub is a video processing and capture tool for the Microsoft Windows Operating System that was created by Avery Lee. VirtualDub was first developed purely as a tool that could be used to compress video files associated with Sailor Moon, an animation program that was first released in Japan in 1992 and became popular all over the world, spawning video games, books, musicals and much more.
VirtualDub is available as a free download under the GNU General Public License, which is the most widely used license for free software applications. There are a number of add-ons for the VirtualDub software and it was also forged many “forks” or spin off programs, a few of which have since been discontinued. VirtualDub comes with a vast array of features and capabilities; it is fast efficient and comes with a user friendly interface and a simple and effective mechanism.
VirtualDub works with the AVI file format and, though it was designed for the Windows OS, it can also run on the Apple Mac and Linux Operating Systems.
