Microsoft Outlook Express is included with the Internet Explorer web browser and was commonplace in earlier versions of the Windows Operating System. This emailing program was used to send, store and receive emails. It could be configured to work with a number of different email accounts, from those set by ISPs and domain name providers, to the free ones offered by Hotmail and Gmail.
Microsoft Outlook Express had a number of features, including an advanced spam filtering feature that was one of the first of its kind and came at a time when he age of the internet was truly advancing and spam was beginning to become a problem.
Microsoft Outlook Express is also available for the Mac Operating System and is sold as part of the Microsoft Office for Macintosh software suite. Microsoft Outlook Express replaced the Microsoft internet Mail and News program and was then succeeded by the Windows Mail program. Contrary to popular belief, Microsoft Outlook Express is not the same program as Microsoft Outlook, nor is it a streamlined version of it. These two programs shared different coding database, but were created with a similar look and feel.
