SharePoint is an application platform that was created by Microsoft and first released in 2001. SharePoint is usually used for content management, document management and for intranet purposes, but it is also capable of much more. Microsoft SharePoint comes in a huber of different languages, from Greek, German and French, to Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Microsoft SharePoint is available in a freeware and a trial ware version, but is also available in a proprietary format. It is reported to be used by over three quarters of the Fortune 500 companies and, between 2006 and 2011, nearly 40 million licenses were purchases by individuals, professionals, small businesses and large businesses alike.
Microsoft SharePoint comes in Standard, Foundation and Enterprise editions. Microsoft SharePoint is also available as an online edition on a cloud-based server. Microsoft SharePoint is very easy to use and comes with an interface that is very similar to Microsoft Office, meaning that regular users of the office software suite can easily adapt to Microsoft SharePoint.
