ActiveSync was created by Microsoft and was first released in 1996 for use on the Microsoft Windows 95 Operating System. Microsoft ActiveSync is a mobile synchronization app that has had many versions released over the years, the latest of which was in 2007 and was compatible with the Windows NT family of Operating Systems such as Windows XP and Windows 2000. Microsoft ActiveSync has since been discontinued and overtaken by other Microsoft software applications such as Zune and the Windows Mobile Device Center.
Microsoft ActiveSync is used to synchronize mobile devices with desktop PCs. It can be used to transfers images, contact data and other information and it can also be used to transfer applications for backup purposes, or pictures and videos that have been taken on the mobile devices and are needed on the desktop PC for upload or storage purposes. Microsoft ActiveSync also allows for mobile syntonization with a Server that is running compatible software, such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Axigen, Horde, Novell Groupwise, IceWarp Server, Kerio Connect and other similar software applications.
